Tyre Update

Last Updated: 02/05/2024 09:51

In accordance with the previous directive (as published on 19 January) http://www.orcstockrods.com/News/2024/01/Season-2024-Tyres drivers in the three regions of ORC Stock Rods (N. Ireland, Scotland and south west England) have been canvassed for their feedback on the quantities of Yokohama A021R tyres.

N. Ireland
Drivers reported a drastic shortage of tyres.

Scotland
Drivers reported an abundance of tyres, and made two further claims:
a/ that plenty more could be easily sourced
b/ the ‘stockpile’ obtained by drivers in Scotland would be made readily available for drivers in other regions.

England (south west)
Drivers reported sufficient tyres to progress through race meetings planned for May and June, but a concern for the next period of racing after that.

With stocks of Yokohama A021R tyres clearly diminishing, tyre testing has also taken place in each of the three regions.

N. Ireland
Drivers content with the Hifly HF201.
Drivers content with the performance of the Nankang NS2R, but concerned at price being approx. £30 per tyre dearer than the Hifly.
Drivers concerned at insufficient supply of Yokohama A021R.

Scotland
Drivers discontent with the performance of the Hifly HF201.
Drivers content with the performance of the Nankang NS2R.
Drivers keen to remain on Yokohama A021R tyre as long as possible.

England (south west)
Drivers with no strong preference, but keen to have some clarity ASAP.

Further tyre testing will continue.

Taking this information into account, the following details will provide some clarity in the short term.
From 1 May to 29 June 2024 inclusive, Yokohama AO21R tyres permitted on all four wheels for all domestic fixtures at Cowdenbeath.
From 1 May to 9 June 2024 inclusive, Yokohama AO21R tyres permitted on all four wheels for all fixtures.
From 10 June 2024 onwards, further information will be available ASAP.

To add further detail, drivers are asked to note.
UK Championship at Skegness – 1 & 2 June - Yokohama AO21R the only tyres permitted on all four wheels.
British Championship at Nutts Corner – 22 & 23 June – a final decision is still to be made, but, there is an onus on those drivers who have stockpiled Yokohama A021R tyres to demonstrate there are sufficient quantities that will be released to any drivers within the ORC Stock Rods community
